Biography
Jonnie Cumming is a Birmingham based Classical Guitarist and a founding member of the Alma Guitar Quartet (with fellow guitarist Hannah Woollacott). He was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire with Mark Ashford and Mark Eden of the Vida Guitar Quartet and Eden-Stell Duo. Jonnie graduated in July 2015 with a First Class Honours degree in performance, and in July 2018 with Distinction in his Master of Music Degree specialising in Chamber music.
In both 2013 and 2014, Jonnie gained a bursary to attend West Dean International Guitar Festival. He then returned to the festival for the 2015 season, where he performed in the first 'Young Artist Platform' concert of the festival.
Jonnie has performed in numerous solo and chamber masterclasses with guitarists such as Xuefei Yang, Gary Ryan, Johannes Möller, Lorenzo Michelli, Marek Pasieczny, Chris Stell and the Grammy award winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet. In 2014 and 2015, he was a finalist in the Birmingham Conservatoire Guitar prize judged by Helen Sanderson and Chris Stell respectively.
As part of Alma, Jonnie has performed in the London Guitar Festival in 2017 as part of IGF’s Aspire Platform and was a finalist in the Sylvia Cleaver Chamber Music Prize in 2018. He has also performed with Alma in the Aureo Herrero Ciclo de Conciertos festival in El Barraco (Ávila), Spain and the Dillington Guitar Festival in 2021. Jonnie also enjoys performing as a soloist and with his Guitar and Double Bass duo, most notably for the Dublin Philharmonic Society recital series in 2019.
Jonnie is passionate about music education and inspiring young musicians. Based in Birmingham, he is currently teaching around the West Midlands and in Warwickshire.
Jonnie plays a guitar made by Oxfordshire luthier Oren Myers.

Jonnie is passionate about music education and teaches in a wide variety of settings. He has experience teaching classical and electric guitar as well as the ukulele. He teaches in many formats from one-to-one lessons all the way up to whole class. His flexible and friendly approach has obtained consistently high results within lessons.
During his time at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, Jonnie has completed four pedagogy courses and teaches throughout the West Midlands and Warwickshire.
